tunes were made differently back then.
as an example the peshay remix of music is about 11 minutes long and you can't really mix out of it half way through.
they were much more journey based than impact based.
this mix-drop-mix-drop mentality of late is fucking shit.

the drum & bass scene is awash of bullshit tunes, it takes some serious digging to find the gems.
back then about 1 in 4 tracks were worth buying.
now it is about 1 in 30
