Agreed it's a little played out - but proportionately I think Americans rank pretty high in the dumbass stakes. Something about the bible-bashing ethos and the small-minded, insular mentality which makes them such an easy target - it's fun taking the piss out of people!

Fair enough, but it's only certain regions that have that mentality, check either the East or West Coast and it'll be very different. They're much more clued up there... it's mainly middle America...
