Knee-jerk, reactionary bullshit. Hope Riz presses charges.

what the fuck?! that's bang out of order.

even if they were doing a film to highlight the cause, who gives a fuck doesnt make them a terrorist. What a load of bullshit that terrorism act causes. So blatantly abused.

Guantanamo shoulda been shut down years ago. Why nobody has done nothing about it i dont know (well nobody's brave enough to stand up to Bush it seems) meanwhile people are rotting in that place without charges being brought against them.

Hopefully a formal complaint will be bought against the police.

Will deffo check the film anyway.....

Did anyone see the newspaper article on Extraordinary Rendition last weekend? US Forces have been using a flight code of a now defunked (sp?) Canadian low-budget airline, to not only move terror suspects from country to country but also to drop of orders of weapons bound for civil war torn countries in Africa..... How this can continue is beyond me.

Just put this on Blunted. Found it on another hip hop forum I check, posted by someone from London who knows Riz. Properly spun me out when I realised who it was about.

that's unbelieveable!! Fair play to Riz for standing up for himself! appalling treatment though.

At this point, things got more adversarial. The officer told Riz that
he had no right to legal advice. She gave him a blank copy of what was
styled a "Section 7 of the Terrorism Act Detention Form." The form
stated that a superintendent could up to 48 hours of detention without
contact with anyone, even a lawyer. Riz is an Oxford graduate, and is
no fool. He asked whether she was a superintendent. She retreated:
He was not in fact being held under this form, and he would only be
denied legal advice for the first hour of questioning.

During the search, she asked Riz whether he intended to do more
documentary films, specifically more political ones like The Road to
Guantanamo. "Did you become an actor mainly to do films like this, you
know, to publicise the struggles of Muslims?" she demanded. She asked
Riz about his political views, what he thought about "the Iraq war and
everything else that was going on".

We cannot afford to be silent. Riz' experience proves that these are
dangerous times to be an actor representing terrorists. And, perhaps,
even a lawyer.

Thats so fucking harsh, people go watch the film The road to guantanamo on Channel 4 march 9

nah but i've read seen a bit about the extraordinary rendition on the news and in papers, they'ev used plenty of places in the uK (andother eu countries etc) as stop overs for refuelling etc before going off to other countries where the rules about interrogation are well probably completely ignored. Was a thing on the news few months ago with the government saying they had no idea itwas going on and british bases/airports were not being used for this purpose. However a few weeks later there was some leaked document proving they did. tony blair is a big fat liar i think...

most people on here would know who he is, well i would guess anyway!

Really? Well i didnt - i apologise for not being on first name terms with the whole of oxford's dnb community. :fingah:

@ MisD - Also, the guy in Italy who got abducted by US Special Agents. The Italian govt had no idea they had done it, creepy.

You can go on about all this for hours but it wont change anything I reckon. If George W is still in office after every blunder/mistake/lie he's made, then what will it actually take for him to stop this.
I've wondered what would happen if he got assisinated. Sad truth is, another puppet will come along and use it as in excuse to carry on doing what they're doing now............

thought this was brilliant!!

Anyone else see it?

Done really professionally, filming and direction was good, acting was excellent - at times you really forget you're watching a docu-drama rather than real life footage. Some dark moments in this. Riz held it down well in the main role too! Very impressive.

it's shocking how they ended up there and f*ck knows how many others - just imagine not being able to speak English, how else would you get out of a place like that? US/UK really f*cked up there - just imagine going on holiday and ending up there :ban:

Props to Riz, good to see he had influence on the role he played - beatboxing in Guantanamo :mullet:

very dark. very dark indeed. the bodies in that truck was just awful...all of it was, from how they got caught up in it, to being stuck there for three months after being cleared. Personally i dont think i'd recover from that...really cant imagine what it must have been like. And I cant believe only ten people have been charged out of 750 odd. why is this place allowed to even exist?

yeah that place was a joke. The torture with the strobes and heavy metal for six hours they said!! :ban:

Thought this was really good. Bringing such a tough/sensitive subject to a wide audience. Felt a little bit hectic at points. Gotta say Riz a wicked job with his acting - massive props mate.
Cant help but get the feeling that although some of it was real footage, we only saw the tip of the iceberg in terms of prisoners treatment etc
Is there any wonder the US/UK are becoming countries of ill repute.

Riz rhyming in his cage was heavy!

DJ Chemical

I think they were there longer than 3 weeks, 2 or 3 years - the were solitary confinement for 3 months alone.

There is pressure to shut it down, but I read this on the bbc website:

'The Commons foreign affairs committee urged ministers to make UK opposition to the camp "loud and public".

But Tony Blair refused to go further than his previous stance on the camp, telling reporters it was "an anomaly" which should come to an end.

He urged people to remember the terror attacks which prompted its creation.'

the last line says it all really - wonder if he watched the programme and how he felt if he did.

Really enjoyed this. Big Ups to Riz, played his part really well. was very impressed by how scenes were shot with no real definate script, but just all off the cuff with lots of ad-libbing. It gave it a far greater sense of realism and made it that much more tangable for the audience.

but it really does raise a lot of questions about this whole war on terror and where its all going....... I hope blair did see that
