i was watching about illegal porn in the UK and how for years the BBFC kept changing what was allowed to be shown and what wasn't. Was really interesting. I had no idea we were so reserved only a decade ago :D The old head of the BBFC actually suggested that people who watch porn aren't responsible enough (and that was the word he used) to ensure it doesnt fall into children's hands!! That was actually the main reason that it wasnt allowed. Ever heard such bollox? After that guy left, the BBFC appointed a new head who quickly realised that if they wanted to control the underground illeagal stuff on the blackmarket, they need to make it legal to buy and show everything the illegal stuff did. However, right at this time, labour came to power and said we wouldn't be legalising it at all! Even appointed someone to oversee the BBFC to ensure they didnt change the classification laws! Back to square one. In the end, a porno film company which had a film declined for release that was previously approved before labour got into power, took the decision to take it to the High Court, who decided we were all grown up enough to deal with it lol. That wasnt that long ago, 97 or something! By then internet porn was emerging so i guess they had no choice.

Even now if you want to see an R 18 film at a cinema, you have to go to the cinema 24hrs in advance and register, a bit like old gambling rules. Crazy stuff.
