...Fairy nuff, I am a medical student, and I support folks through this every day. But, I'm facing it myself now and I'm just wondering how it feels?...

local or general?
local anaesthetic is kind of weird... had stitches put in my chin under local years ago which was mental because although i could feel the needle going into my skin, i couldn't actually feel any pain.
general is like going to sleep... only really nice sleep. when i had my wisdoms out i was put under general. all i can remember is chatting to the aneasthetist about milk and the fact that it solidifies when it hits your stomach, then i woke up a few hours later with my teeth in a jar (which i asked for!)
nothing to worry about.

local - stitchs sorta thing: no problems what so ever. Anything else: get as much drugs as u can off the anaethatist. They forget we take these sorta things for fun.
general - dont really remember cos i had one of those pre anaesethic injections which stops u really knowing whats goin on. Its a weird one. Felt like shit when i woke up and slept on and off for a few days. I was five thou, to be fair!

only ever had a childrens aneasthetic, it was a manky sticky drink which i took, then within seconds i was out.
I dont really think you have anything to worry about apart from waking up and feeling a bit poo, but your 22 and strong so you'll be fine :)

When I was about ten I was put to sleep to have half of my skull ripped out of my mouth by my dentist... Never again. I was awake in my sleep. Does that make sense?
Blinding flashes and intense beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee high-pitch tinnitus shit in my ears...
Come around to find a bowl under my chin and a river of blood pouring out of my gob.
Not nice...
I chose the other option from then on....

nothing to worry about? i fucking dispute that.
when i was well young, i suffered from gammy eyes, and they used a general a few times to sort it... for the third op (i was 4), they put the needle in me foot. unfortunately, i was knocked out when they did it, and didn't realise. Apparently the noise i made when i stood up to go to the pisser was the worst thing the nurse had ever suffered...
other than that tho, the only bother is the 24 hours nil by mout thing, coz it tends to make you feel ropey and want to spew.
locals are fun, coz you can't feel bits of your body, but avoid chwing your cheek for fun when you can't feel it, you regret it afterwards.

this was, is and always will be my worst nightmare, until they convince me that this can't happen any longer. i've heard horror stories about people feeling everything when having open heart surgery or liver transplants and stuff. merge that must've been a horrific experience so big up yerself for living through it
apparently, they're supposed to check your eyes for tears, as that's the only way they can tell if you are still "awake". but i bet they never do. balls in Gem's court to correct me here...

During surgery, we usually tape eyes. Which are observed regularly :)

Yeah my dads just been in to hospital, and he said that when he came to from his op he didn't even realise he'd had it done.
And I'm looking forward to staying in the Acland! You get your own room with a tv and radio, tea and coffee and air con! Like a holiday! Although I may feel a little bored for the 6 days I have to stay in.
Not looking forward to the six weeks off work either :(
