Okay, occassionally I do look up and judging by crowd response I will try to dig out some beats which I know will go down well, but generally I play the tracks which I like, because I personally believe it's better to have a unique DJ style, rather than just being another anthem basher...
This is also why I find it hard to think of favourite DJ's these days. They all seem too similar. All the same plates.
People who know me know I'm a B-Side man!
Let's face it. There are so many wicked D 'n' B tracks out there, or deep in your record box somewhere[!], that no-one really recognises, it would be a shame to waste them or indeed to miss out on them...
What about you?
When it comes to production I don't give a flying fuck if the intro ain't long enough or a drop doesn't drop or there ain't some dirty great b-line somewhere in it.
I like blazing high grade and listening to my own shit. If other people also like it, then that is a bonus!
Funny thing is, tracks I ain't at all amazed with, which took me very little time to make - such as 'Punchbag' - seem to get best feedback!
The ones I feel proudest of are the deeper, jazzier and more experimental bits.
But, I'm not fussed if no-one else likes it really.
A mate in Devon once said to me, about one of my tracks, "it needs more of this and that", which is fine.
I appreciate feedback, but it doesn't 'need' that!
It 'needs' YOU TO GET OFF YOUR ASS AND MAKE SOME OF YOUR OWN SHIT, MATE sort of thing! Hehehe!
One knows what one likes.
If you don't like my cooking, don't eat it! :D

When you say though about someone saying what it needs etc and you use the cooking term, surely say if you've made some food and someone says, "nah mate, that needs a bit more sauce in that" is that not allowed. I know sometimes you'd could go and make your own meal and put your bit of extra sauce in but sometimes when there's a number of people you cater for everyone.
Am I talking sense ? I don't think I am ! It's a friday afternoon and I'm knackered. May see some people over the weekend ! :)

I write tunes for me which are dependant on my mood. i get a bit pissed off when people say it could do with this or that, because it's my fucking tune & i made it like that for a reason...
that's not to say that i don't appreciate criticism or can't take it...
but if you're only criticising my production techniques and not the musical content then it's probably because i don't know how to get that particular sound or make the effect work in the way that i want it to. & that will only come with time and effort.
i'm only a beginner after all...

Innit. The fun bit is learning new techniques. Sorry, Nu Tekneekz! B)
It's getting late though, I'm 23 in October. Should have a back catalogue of releases by now!
Look at Twisted! B)

Yeah merge - my shit is my fucking shit.
I write tunes that reflect the mood I'm in, it's impossible to do anythnig else, I rarely have an idea when I start, maybe I just lay down a dark bassline and see how I feel about it, or maybe I'll write a quick beat that souns fresh so I'll work with that you know...
Learning the techniques and finding good ways to make a bad sound is the fun part, I thnik its cool to share secrets and that, but I hate the way I try hard t learn this shit then little townies ask me how to produce? I aint got tmie for that hsit man it's a thing you gotta get into. I learnt from reading and twiddling mate. Even mixing I didnt know no fucker man, I do everything for myself man. My tracks are my tracks same as you man, fuck the feedback, thjats good or thats bad - I know a good track, and I know none of mione are as good as the ones you can buy, but I'll know when it's time. I dont need no fucker telling me shit man.
~Phil
PS - I'm pissed so I bet you're all gonna be like kep ya hair on etc.. come on... ;)

Sometimes wish I never gave Bravo the formula for the F-Word beat placement! [Only kidding!]
It ain't exactly that complicated or hard to work out really, but he did phone to ask me!
If you want to try this on your drug programmer here's the secret. You need to put your :-
Kicks at points 1, 8, 12 and 16
Snares at points 5 and 13
Hi Hats at points 1, 5, 9 and 13
Skippiness at it's best!
CLOWNSHTEPPERZ AT THE READY!
Manik's reading this - "like... DUR! I knew that AGES ago!" Haha!

I've only just even conteplating doing my own tracks recently, so far i've got a few loops & beats sorted out that ive done...so it's very beginner fpr ,e with the productoion side of things.
At the moment, i'm happy for any advise at the moment, i'm not at the stage where anyone can give critismn to what i'm doing. I think if peeps are to critasize anyone's tunes..it should be constructive, like what Raw said. At the end of the day, what peeps have said already 'your track is your track, it's what you feeling so nobody can change that.'
I know the stuff I wanna do, will be 'me', and what I like. I wanna make tracks that 'rocks my boat' so to speak. If it's a tune that would work well to the crowd i'm playing to then wicked, if it's not I wont play it. You don't have to make tracks just to please a certain crowd...well if you wanna make easy money..then yeah..but thats not what I wanna do.
I'd love to get tracks out, when/if I do, I know these tracks will be what i'm feeeling...whether it be a Hip Hop track. Liquid/intelligent D&B, Jump up or Dark.
I'm very intrested to hear some of the stuff all you guy's have been doing. What i've heard from Dave, has been class, some wicked tracks actually! I've heard some of Mikee's mellower tracks, and I was well impressed, I need to hear you other stuff mate! :) Juicy & Melodize's tracks have been pure class aswell! :)
There's so much talent in Oxford it's unreal, I need your tracks in my box...definatly! B) I'm definately on the case more, with production myself now, i've just gotta get my head round it all, i'll get there one day...:D Perhaps one day peeps will say the same about my stuff!
Keep the good work up guy's, your all definately doing good!!!

i write stuff for myself to be honest.. too many producers are now writing tracks becuase they want to be popular and make lots of money, i could reel off a huge list of producers but you all must know who i'm talking about, of course one mans paradox is the next mans brockie but it is a shame to see the drum&bass scene turn into a stagnant field of over-zealous corporate whoreism, one upmanship and egotistical biggotry.
today alpha omega sent me a cd.. and it's cds like this which rekindle my faith in the d&b scene.. there are people who write music from the heart... the likes of klute, paradox, breakage, blame, seba, makato etc.. too many people are following the same tired old two step reece or lfo-wobble bass formula, what is going to happen when these people realise that it's all abit too played out.. there is nothing wrong with retrospectively looking at sounds and bringing them bang up to date.. check ratty's set at hq.. that was pre 2002 1992 bizniz.. amazing..
i wish more producers wrote from the heart and not from the greed.
