ASYLUM CENTRE!

If you've been on the forum over the last few months you may have noticed that my little village in the middle of nowhere (Piddington) has been a constant source of amusement, due to the fact it is so in the middle of nowhere. It's rural, and I quite like it that way. We don't even have a shop. Just a pub, with only the regular locals ever in attendance.

Today my rural little village is all over the BBC and ITV news. Check it out yourself. The government have decided to build an asylum centre, for 700 asylum seekers, in the field opposite my house!

I'm furious. Why here? We only have two pubs and one shop in a four mile radius!

I am sympathetic to some of these poor peoples situations, and there general desperation. But why here. We simply do not have the resources to deal with them.

Why not build a centre for them somewhere a little more inhabited. It just feels to me like they're being dumped here.

It's ruining everything I've ever known. Elderly residant locals who have spent their whole lives here are putting their houses on the market. Because they don't want to see everything they've always known and loved fall apart.

Sad. Innit.

We are literally going to be the ethnic minority in our village, which only has a population of 200.

The asylum seekers are going to be free to come and go from the centre as they please. They'll have nothing to do other than wander round our village, and take over our village pub, as that will be the only thing they can do! There is nothing else. Not even a bus service.

It makes me angry tho, that they will get there own health centre,shop,and school. More than we've ever had!

And the government over ruled our local council enquiry to, which decided unanimously against the idea. It's so unfair. We have no choice!

i'm not a rascist however i can see why the national front are beginning to come to the forfront, even if i totally condone alot of its ideals i'm sick to death of all these non-political asylum seeking easy-life loving piss taking twats taking housing whilst single parents have to wait years just for a roof over their heads. i don't mind people coming to this country to work hard and make an honest living but when i see people milking my tax money it angers me..

this kind of issue makes me feel two different ways. on the one hand i sympathise with gem and feel the same as dave about the money i get RINSED every month by the government being given to support foreigners rather than british citizens.....

but on the other hand, our inbuilt distrust and dislike of 'asylum seekers', justified though it may be, isn't really a very healthy attitude to have. :unsure:

I know marsh gibbon really well. Nice pub but the fag machine always pinches my money and doesn't spit anything out.

The only time I drive through piddington is if I have my rallying head on.
Single track roads, fast and blind corners and not forgeting the dodgy railway bridge.
(where my mate went off-roading once). :blink:

The last time I was over there was on the way back from Oxford, Thought we'd stop in the Seven stars for a swift 1.

I'm also a "Marshian", like Bazza.

Perhaps you know a guy who we affectionatley nicknamed "Bungle" ( real name Ian, dunno the sirname ) who's fucking enormous and lives round your gaff. Gets over Marsh quite a bit but the tosspots just broke his leg in 2 places so I doubt we'll be seeing him for some time.
