It's like a lot of other DJs out there too who are releasing tunes into the charts to make a bit of $£$£. Fair enough, I can see why they're doing it (ie to make a name for themselves), but it's starting to attract the wrong sort of crowd to nights that used to bring people that only went for the music..... you know what I mean

i pretty much dont like either of em lol
you all forgot Grooveriders latest offerings (tho mostly Fresh's work i reckon lol)
DO WHAT YOU DO
what a SHIT tune... all this twangy guitar crap.... pfft... pop drum and bass...
he's just makin tunes he knows will go down well with little girls and 13yr olds... he wants to be seen as the big man as it progresses thru to the more mainstream ear. i can see why he's doing it... but i dont have to agree...

okay yea dnb is getting more commercial - i mean dnb in the fucking top40?? what next...
..but i guess we cant have it both ways, now the attitude has gone, and all the wanna-be-bad-bwoys have gone to the garage scene its opened it up for a lot more people..
Also MTVdance now have a dnb show, and 1extra - its all making it more popular...
Im not saying its right, but it happens all over in clubland... all types of music . Sadly nothing seems to stay underground forever!

I think that after what Shy did for the scene in the first place he sort of has the right to make some money out of it now

That's very true.... as long as it doesn't start to turn the scene into something it doesn't want to be :)

yeah i can understand why they're going mainstream though, they need to make a bit of money to put away now and again for when they're not in the scene, otherwise they're gonna have fuck all when they retire!
yeah they earn enough dolla as it is but they have to buy all the new dubplates and new tunes (singles + albums) i bet that costs enough, then they got bills, food and all that other shit!
so u know hehe :D

hell it's a tad hypocritical (spelling?) when he turned down £100,000 in 1994 and then decided to sign in the end... maybe it's becuase he turned down a deal back then and goldie, source direct et all then signed!!
anyhows drum&bass needs exposure now and then.. just to shut Muzik magazine's is jungle dead bi-monthly rant!
vive la d&b!

Ok hears my opionion, at sum point in a djs life they prouduce a track that will deffently mark an era or the opposite make them think oh no! did i do that?! but not all publicity is bad publicity.

Blimey all a bit heavy all this talk about commerciality in d&b, you're bound to get the odd tune make it into the charts, but we all know tracks like addicted 2 bass and freestylers and the above forementioned tunes etc etc were designed to be commercialy viable just to give popheads a gentle reminder that theres more to life than so solid kru, but the underground will always surrvive and not rise up like the ruuuude Bwoooooooy! Garage scene lets hope so anyhows.
*still waiting for twist 'em out to enter the top 10 to prove him wrong haha*
Long live the Underground! (and other similar modes of transport)

Danger, it's one of my long posts!
Basically, the whole thing about commercial drum n bass has been on my mind for quite a roll, especially since shy fx has churned out these terrible tunes.
Admittingly I was quite into shake it for about a month or so, I remeber it really got me going once at pyromaniacs. It was the happy vibe you know we all get pulled in by a hook from a bit of cheese sometime you know what I mean? (what?)
Thing is that shy fx has produced seom genre shaping tunes that have been 'important' for drum n bass, and belive it or not his mix of Ray Keiths Choppa is one o fthose important tunes, it's just that not everybody feels the same about those round jump up basslines.
Basically, at the end of the day if I was to give you a tenner for nothing would you take it or tell me to keep it? we all know the anser to that... shy has worked out a winning commercial formula so why shouldn't he use it?
as for the rider, that tune (yeah that one frost) is nothing short of a wankstain and that's the damn truth... heehee
see ya - need a pint and a stick. safe all - not that long a post in the end...

Shy FX on my end - I meant it metaphorically Lady Dayaster - but u knew that anyway didn't ya :P B)
...but you do make a good point, everyone likes to make their mark on what they do so ppl will remember them, and a good way to do that is obviously to release a big commercial chart topping tune.
However, once you realise that the money you get for whipping together a cheesey poppy track is actually much better than what u get for painstakingly crafting a gritty underground record thats it - Phil said it above - "If I handed you a tenner would you keep it or giv it back?"

1. grooverider can do what he likes (and he does) after all, he is the rider, and boy does he knwo it
2. drum&bass producers don't make 1/20th of the monet that house producers make.
3. shy fx turned down an awful lot of money in 1995. he thoguh he was being down with the scene and then saw certain over main-players of drum&bass sign rediculous deals with the majors, thus he is more than welcome to sign to a major and earn was he truly deserves. now i'm not saying i'm a major fan of mr shy, alot of his stuff is very weak in my oppinion, however i'm certainly one to ensure credit is due when it's due.
4. commercialism may intorduce new people to our scene, admitedly it can also hinder the scene, i guess you have to play one against the over. i for one would love to see paradox, danny breaks, fracture&neptune, breakage and senses in the charts, but will that ever happen? hell no!

I'd rather all the kids were playing cheesy dnb like Shake It than listening to craig david or so solid crew - at least the moneys flowing the right direction ie.those twats from london aren't getting it to buy another Audi TT with, or more gold phucking chains
