I heard Manik say about making sure they pull in the punters [ie. a big enough name] yet again I've heard him say that everyones in it for the money and not willing to try new things...

new ideas are fantastic although you may have noticed that i try and book artists who have never played in oxford BUT are quite known...

such as Nookie, Bailey etc...

it's not much point booking unknowns... as much as you like them...

for example i would love to get people like Makato down BUT i'm really unsure he would pull punters...

This is why IMO if you can get other things going at your rave, such as a fucking awesome lightshow, people will trust they are gonna have a good night and won't be so bothered about the 'names'...

Then they will go away thinking "that Makoto was wicked as well!"

mate... people don't go to an event just for a lightshow, sure the ambience is an important factor but its not high on an agenda.. i mean when was the last time you heard someone go to a rave just for the 16watt argon water-cooled 7 colour lazer which could project an awe inspiring battle grid???

most people go purely for the music.

mentality has changed between 1992 and 2003

the onus is much more on the performing artists these days, take a look for yourself..

when people post details of raves or club nights on this and the other forums... what do people put down?

the artists...

not often would you get any details about systems and lighting etc... obviosuly there are a few exceptions, valve being the obvious one here...

back in the day i used to love reading the flyers of dreamscape and the like to see how many robo scans and par 64's an event had...

it's a shame as i would sooner go to an event with amazing light show and booming sound and up&comings than see a headline dj on a shit rig with a few piddly little lights..

not many ppl bother to in smaller clubs... id imagine its like trying to re-create the feelings of a huge rave ina smaller venue.
