vyper
23rd April 2008, 11:23 AM
The next Subshock is a special one as I team up with the Sound Artillery artists. This crew are also behind Tech:nology nights, so they certainly know how to hold it down. For this one i've got a very special guest on the line up, all the way from Canada, none other then Gremlinz.

Also it'll be Smokey's birthday, so bring cake ;)

Gremlinz
http://www.breaksblog.biz/images/gremlinz.jpg
Hailing all the way from Toronto, Canada, Gabriel Au aka Gremlinz has been wowing us with his hard hitting D&B productions. for the past 4 years. Since then he has had releases out on 13 Music, Architecture, Audio Decay, Crisis, Cylon, Freak, Gamma Ray, Make Shift, Metalheadz, Mindrush, Obscene, Renegade Hardware, Sound Artillery, Vampire and Xtinction Agenda.

Over the past couple of years gabs more recognised tunes will no doubt be tracks like Goliath (Renegade Hardware) & Annexed (Renegade Hardware), not forgetting Breach (Architecture) which was one of his first tracks to come out.

Last year gabs, started a new Label called Audio Decay, which he released Aspect & his VIP mix of Its Yours, which is still smacking venues down to the ground.

He has some wicked forthcoming tracks to unleash, so keep your eyes peeled.

Solid Industry
http://www.soundartillery.com/images/artists/photo/11-solidindustry.jpg
Solidindustry has been djing since 2000. His first residency was at Dekefex at the Bug Bar in Brixton. At this time he also had a bi-weekly show on Ukrumble, which was his first experience of radio. Since then, he has played on Rude fm, Origin fm, Drum&Bass worldwide and Life Fm. Once Dekefex had finished he became resident at Brixton’s other big night, Rollercoaster. Repping the darker beats at a predominately upfront event. He also owns and is resident at Tech:nology. He has played at Def:inition, Autopsy, Darklight, Nakedbeatz and Tempo Tantrum in recent times

Nebulus
http://www.soundartillery.com/images/artists/photo/01-nebulus.jpg
Nebulus got properly into DnB way back in 94’. Once he got a job in the same building as section 5 (moving shadows HQ shop) it was all over. Soon after Nebulus Linked up with Data and started the long journey into production. For years they held down a 2 hour back to back show on www.LifeFM.co.uk. Here he met Contact & Killa B. After the tune making took shape. Gigs started to come in for the DJing. As the tunes production got better, it was realized that to be taken seriously the next phase was to start a label to act as place to spot light his and data’s tunes. This is when Sound Artillery was born. After years of planning it finally made its debut on the scene in a digital only format. Along the way he has made many friends and recruited some of the best up and coming talent on to the label. Now Sound Artillery has grown and has been picked up by none other than SRD to Distribute the physical and digital releases to a world wide audience. With the Debut 12” out now and the 2nd 12” out before the end of the year. Plus 8 digital EPs Sound Artillery has gone from strength to strength. During that time he linked up with Solidindustry (Tech:nology) and now the label is heavily affiliated with the night. Tech:nology provides a great arena to showcase the up and coming talents of Sound Artillery. Nebulus, always smacks up the dancefloor with a journey of moody rollers to outright darkside with a dancefloor vibe. In the last few years Nebulus has grown in stature, DJing across europe, from Sweden to as far away as Bulgaria.

Smokey
http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n28/dj_smokey_2006/1448248860_l.jpg
DJ Smokey started mixing back in 1994, but it wasn’t until the summer of 2000 that he first got a taste for playing in clubs at a weekly night in Oxford called Meltdown which he co promoted with Freak-Tone & GB under the name of Rebel Faction. Since then Smokey has played in Virtually every club in & around Oxford. He was the winner of The Hit & Run DJ Competition in 2004, came second in the Source DJ competition & runner up in the liquidfunk.co.uk DJ comp which had well over 500 entrants. His trademark fast mixing style & ability to mix across sub Genres of drum n bass with ease has also helped earn him bookings around the world including France & Canada. Smokey has performed alongside some of the biggest names in the scene today such as: Andy C, Dom & Roland, D-Bridge, Moving Fusion, Dylan, Tech-Itch, Swan E, Dillinja, Utah Jazz, Pendulum, Mc Dynamite, Fat Man D and many more

Void
http://www.djvoid.co.uk/img/gallery/8/8_02.jpg
In 1996, DJ Void first experienced Drum & Bass whilst at University in Hull through the New Horizons events. Inspired and captivated by guest DJs such as the legendry Kemistry & Storm, Doc Scott and LTJ Bukem and hooked on Radio One's 'One In The Jungle' it was a natural progression to get decks and in 1998 to start mixing.

Starting out by playing house parties and University events he soon moved on and though persistent self promotion secured residencies at a number of small events in London and played at events such as Pure Science in Maidstone and the Best Of British at legendry rave venue, Bagley's.

Things progressed swiftly and self promotion paid off further leading to international gigs in Belgium and Orlando, USA and plays at events and venues such as Raindance, Cargo, Electrowerkz and The Big Chill Bar plus the Carling Weekend: Leeds and Reading Festivals 2004 playing slots between headline acts in the Dance tent followed with a 3 hour warm-up set at Rahzel and Mike Patton's sold out show at the Mean Fiddler (LA2), London. In July 2006 he was chosen as a finalist for the Rebirth Summer Gathering DJ competition.

Building on radio experience from slots on University radio and FlashFM.com, DJ Void featured for a year on London's leading Drum & Bass station, Rude FM 88.2 and was featured in the mix on BBC 1Xtra's Breaking New Talent slot in November 2005. Since April 2007 he has been producing fortnightly podcasts for Phuture Frequency radio, www.pfradio.com

Choosing to hone his DJ skills further and begin producing, DJ Void spent studio time with breaks producer XFile to produce his debut track 'Extinction' and spent the academic year 2004/2005 studying at the Vestax DJ Academy at the Academy of Contemporary Music, Guildford where he won the Outstanding DJ of the Year award.

DJ Void has shown a unique diversity, able to mix the light and dark ends of the Drum & Bass spectrum and produce rolling sets utilising productions by both old skool producers such as Digital, Photek and Blame and the new breed such as Break, Silent Witness and Commix

Vyper
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a241/yogi2yogi/DW/vyper.jpg
Vyper was introduced to the underground scene by school friends with flyers, records & tapes from early raves. Starting to buy vinyl in 94 it wasnt until the following year he sourced some decks.

Within a couple of years Vyper began playing out in his home town and also starting a small night playing House, Drum & Bass and Hardcore.

After moving to Oxford in 1999 Vyper got involved with Feelthebass.co.uk running an internet radio show with the founder on regular basis for over a year. By this time he was also spinning house and trance, and had landed sets at The Phoenix in Manchester, The Glasshouse in Leeds, and Wellos and Templars bar in Nottingham.

In 2002 he helped co promote Compound, a monthly D&B night. Since then he has been playing up & down the country, aswell as a gig in Copenhagen. His sets vary from the liquid to techy dark and hard D&B' and occasionally Old Skool Jungle. Last year saw him debut at Renegade Hardware (London) & Intrigue (Bristol)

2005 saw Vyper landing residencies at Oxford longest running Drum&Bass night, Source, and In Motion in Banbury. Both nights no longer run anymore though. He is however a resident for Upload (Bristol), Breakfreekz (Oxford) & Subshock (Oxford)

Currently Vyper holds down three online radio shows, www.leetradio.com (Mons 8-10pm), www.witnessthesickness.co.uk (Tues 7-9pm) & www.darkwaxradio.co.uk (Wed 9pm-11pm), when not on the radio he's working on Subshock which he now runs.

how was tha night geezas?

Night was sick mate.

Mr Lager started proceedings with some wicked Dubstep, I dont know much about it, but the tunes done the talking..I was on next, and managed one mix before the deck packed in, spent most of my set, trying to sort it out, whilst doing some one deck mixing  After me, Void took control, rolling out deep & dark rollers and testing the bass good and proper :noelslayer: Smokey followed up with a wicked set, banging out some serious filth for 90 minutes. Gremlinz was up after Smokey, and played a blinding 90minutes, probebly one of the best sets i've heard him play. This is when the night finally got busy, which managed to even make Gremlinz smile. Then to round things of Nebulus played a wicked set, tight ass mixing & quality tunage. MCs on the night Killa B, Havok & Blackeye were a killer combo on the mic, quality MCs, keep your eyes peeled for these guys. Unfortunaly Solid Industry & MC Contact couldn't make it, but don't worry...Sound Artillery will be back in Oxford later in the year!!

Big Up to all those that made it down, hope you all had a good one. :smiley 1: A poor attendence from FTB heads tut tut :P

Very glad indeed I made it down! Was worryingly empty early on, but people seemed to come from nowhere and actually got themselves on the dancefloor..and shock horror, seemed to stay there! ARrived during smokeys' set, haven't heard him play for a while (sorry I missed everyone elses sets!) which was no warm up at all, and was sounding good (although I didn't actually make it onto the dancefloor during his set!). Gremlinz who I really enjoyed, some great drums and darker sounds...and Nebulus who possibly managed to slightly outshine Gremlinz by lifting the pace! Quite different styles though but needless to say that I was glued to the dancefloor and everyone I heard did the job properly. I thought it worked really well..

Was great to hear a night of my sort of dnb in Oxford, probably never to be repeated again, so I'm glad I missioned back. Nice to see the crowd being so nice n lively and generally loving it. And I don't just mean myself either..haha..!

Let's hope the recordings come out nice :)

Shouts to smokey & his crew, void, juicy, odog and his lady (sorry..the name escapes me!) christy & corrie, tris and of course the V man himself. Big up's!

sadly missed: Everyone from FTB who should have come down & Matt who escaped early...

Wicked night! I really enjoyed all sets but i think i'll have to agree with jaqs when she said that Nebulus just outshone gemlinz by quickening the pace a little! I was deffinatly taken aback by how busy it got towards the end of the night.. deffinatly no regrets tho, very fun and friendly vibe all around! Great job everyone involved with making this night happen.

Shouts out to Trilforth, Cristy, Juicy, Jaqs, Mark, MDP - -the lightweight, Void, and Smokey. Great seeing you all in such a good atmasphere i wish more sundays were alike!

For the Record my lady (Sarah) did enjoy herself and she's looking forward to more dnb nights.. hopefully she'll sort her shoes out next time :biggrindaisy:

Massive apologies going out to Smokey for not reaching. After repeatedly telling him at OX4 that I'd be there, I fell asleep at about 8pm on Sunday and didn't wake up til gone midnight. Going by some of the reports it sounds like I missed out..

Yeah turned out pretty good in the end, you definatly got to come down to one. :bigglasses:

glad thats the 2nd night in a row now to go well !! :asskiss:

Its getting there, slowly but surely...was stressing at the begining of the night..:extrasmashedanagffi

Glad you made it down and enjoyed yourself while you was there, and have no fear this will be repeated again, Sound Artillery crew will be down again, and a few more line ups planned that will definately be up your street.

Was good to see the crowd lively and begging for the rewinds, and one more tune at the end...the bouncers were looking worried lol

Yeah matt had to go home for his pipe and slippers ;) Like the rest of FTB was already doing...;)

Soz I didn't catch up with ya much, too busy stressing about the lack of peeps at the start of the night..:extrasmashedanagffi Glad you had a ggod one anyways, hope sarah did aswell. Innit, that combined with a heavy session in London on the Friday had left me ruined. Good to see you Saturday anyway mate.
