Alright mate! The 'all of it sounds the same' thing is not unusual mate, it's something I get from people a lot. To the uninitiated most genres consist of tunes sounding the same, especially in the beginning. Me for example, I reckon snow patrol and all that fucking, razorlight, etc - all sound essentially the same (only because I'm not into them enough to listen to them enough to start picking out distinctions)
(First - an anti-flame disclaimer (this stops me getting shit off people on here you see) - all subgenres are subjective and crossover, there are no lines to cross, many tunes fit into more than one pidgeon hole and pidgeon holing music is fundamentally wrong anyway.)
A quite substantial list of dnb subgenres is on wikipedia under drum n bass, so check that for more info. go to chemical-records.co.uk and look up the following: VERY BROADLY.....
Liquid (aka liquidfunk) is the more smooth stuff:
fokuz recordings, hospital records, high contrast, lomax, donnie dubson, etc
Jump up: commercial bouncy basslines and beats. popular stuff.
true playaz, clipz, twisted individual, hype,
Tech(step) and the dark rollers:
virus, matrix, kemal, renegade hardware, outbreak
Drillcore/skullstep/bombers/sickage/etc:
limewax, panacea, dylan, current value
What you wanna do is check labels and artists you find you like, then check everything by that artist and everything on every label thery are on, and branch out that way.

jump up - clipz, hazard - whinning mid range bass. eg http://www.chemical-records.co.uk/sc/servlet/Info?Track=BIO03
liquid - calibre, d bridge - mimimal drums and lots of sub bass and uplifting pads. eg http://www.chemical-records.co.uk/sc/servlet/Info?Track=CRSE02LPS2
tech - break, silent witness - crunchy bass, minimal drums. silghtly darker style to liquid. eg http://www.chemical-records.co.uk/sc/servlet/Info?Track=DNAUDIOLP1
neuro - teebee and calyx, phace - more flowing bass lines. with an 'organic' feel. eg http://www.chemical-records.co.uk/sc/servlet/Info?Track=SUBTITLES045
tekno - proket, raiden - techno based. bleeps and bloops. sub bass ala techno. eg http://www.chemical-records.co.uk/sc/servlet/Info?Track=PC065
dark - audio, evol intent - big bass, heavy drum patterns eg http://www.chemical-records.co.uk/sc/servlet/Info?Track=FREAK021
deathstep - limewax, current value - crazy drum patterns, crazy bass eg http://www.chemical-records.co.uk/sc/servlet/Info?Track=BWARE003
really liquid, tech and neuro are pretty similar. and can easily be mixed with each other. and complement each other.
techno influcened drum and bass is still pretty new. so i didn't know what else to call it. but like phil blunt says "many tunes fit into more than one pidgeon hole "

If you follow this up and indeed do check the various styles, you'll notice the HUGE range of other styles that drum n bass draws from.
This multi-facetedness is one of the things that makes drum n bass so appealling to me personally. Jazz to techno it's all there. I'm talking about both noises and production techniques.

Most of the stuff that i heard has been jump up i guess!! Mostly all the clubs play it mixed in with cheese,
Liquid is pretty good seems to be rolling most of the time!! High contrast always impressed me!

I think both Phil & Addict have summerised it quite well :)
I remember when I first stated listening to it, I was thinking this is the longest tune in the world...I didn't have a clue it was mix of tunes lol

The Jump up stuff these days does sound a bit samey...there are some good tracks still, but alot of the time you go to the bigger raves thats all they play, not much diversity. ALthough One Nation have started bringing different djs in, check One Nation Vs Shogun in Bristol next week, looks sick! (I havn't said that about One Nation in quite a while)

What nights have you been going to? It might be that you're going to a bunch of nights that all play one particular subgenre. Most of those which people have written about here are offered around Oxford so if you get out and about enough you should notice the variety.
