MAX ROMEO is a true giant among Jamaican recording artists.
As a teenager his unique vocal rescued him from the sugar plantations and brought him to Kingston, where in 1968 he became a founding member of THE UPSETTERS, beginning a long and fruitful relationship with the maverick producer LEE 'SCRATCH' PERRY.
It was with Perry, and against the heated backdrop of 1970's political tensions, that Max would leave his indelible mark on the island's recording history – marrying Rastafarianism with social consciousness on the paronamic WAR INA BABYLON LP in 1976. A landmark record, its centre-piece 'CHASE THE DEVIL' would famously form the basis of THE PRODIGY's rave anthem 'OUT OF SPACE', two decades on.
Now in his sixties, Max's voice is as strong as ever, and his rare live performances are never less than compelling. SKYLARKIN' SOUNDSYSTEM is honoured to bring the great MAX ROMEO to Oxford for the second time.
Plus support from RAGGASAURUS, COUNT SKYLARKIN, THE MAGIC FLY, DJ DEREK and a free afterparty till 2am!
