Why pay London DJ's vast amounts of money to come and stand and look miserable, whack on a few dubs of tunes we will get in a month or two, and clang out lazy unoriginal mixes?

Don't tell me you still rate 'big names'?!

good point mike matey :-)

remember demand vs supply.. certain big name dj's are a licence to print money, so much so than mc's imho...

claging dj's... yuck..

it's about time dj friction got a gig in oxford methinks.... he's going to be massive very soon indeed.

call me old fashioned, but these guys made the scene. without the likes of hype, grooverider, fabio, etc. we may not be listening to dnb!

i realise that they do charge a few hundred notes an hour, but that's only cos they can get it.

i agree with manik about friction tho, saw him in southampton and he rocked the place.

i also think that oxford has had a problem that it sees the same few big name djs week in week out... how many times has shy fx played? and nicky blackmarket for that matter.

so in answer to your question. i do still rate big names, yes. and i am aware that there are plenty of djs who can mix just as well.

see ya down the front

That's a good point, but personally I think it's about time they got chance to relax, let some of the new kids earn a crust.

I listen to the premier league DJ's to hear their own new productions more than anything else. But then I am a bit of a trainspotter!

fair comment mikee, but i can't help but be inspired by the likes of Andy C and Mampi Swift. i hear them do it and then try to pull off better mixes myself.

as for being a trainspotter... aren't we all. :) :) :)

~Whoever made comment about friction. Too right. He deserves to be.

Yea i was well amused that your booking big name MCs. Especially wiv events like 'mcs convention' 'battle of the mcs' which blatantly attract the younger kids....and also the attitude. Mcs shouldnt be the headline. MCs are there to support djs, keep the crowd goin and buzzin.... they're not more important than the djs! (no matter what they think lol !) Yea if u want different MCs great!!!!....but disagree wiv making them the headliners on the flyer. Put your residents in big bold writing, they're the djs! :P

Do know what you mean about big name djs looking miserable. Saw hype at the end and he looked phucking depressed!!!! Even thou crowd were havin it!!!!!

All this said I really enjoyed hearing skibba @source so maybe it will work out! Good luck to yas!

I do like Mampi Swift, Andy C, Markee and the DJ's that still seem to put in 100% but when I see DJ's such as Brockie etc turning up and playing a sh*t quality set it just really gets to me considering the amount of effort me as well as other dj's put in even to get one set at an event or night.

Most of them obviously do still try but the main reason I for one go to events is because I think like Merge said, you here the new tunes that they have produced etc and all the dubplates that no one can buy at record shops until they've completely rinsed them.

Otherwise, I think you get a lot of quality out of the sets local DJ's play because out of what tunes you have, most people will have heard them before so you have to mix well and do tricks and techniques unseen before to impress the crowd as well as concentrate on what tunes to play a bit more.

With mc's it's different and not being an mc (usually!!) I can't stand up for that side but the big names are quite essential because are the hosts but still the local mc's can compete.

There are a lot of mc's that are somehow doing the circuits at the top but how they got there I do not know because I've seen far better mc's in Oxford and would rather listen to quite a few of them rather than some on the top flyers. I personally think it will be one hell of a night.

I think the mc's will go off each other to end up with the best out of them. Fearless + Eksman + Shabba ? ? ! ! Pure madness and a massive big up to Nicky C for even daring to put this kind of mayhem on in Oxford!!!! Enough said I think!!!!!

AVIT!!!

I agree that the top name dj's should take a back seat for a while. let the unhead of dj's make a name for themselves! theres enough talent out and about these days, every ones mixing cos they all know dnb is the sweetest thing since a really really sweet thing...

what you could start doing is, on the flyer have what dj it is and not what mc's you have lined up for the night (or maybe the other way round)

it would deffinately give people a suprise and no one else has tried it yet...

If you had Shabba, Eksman and Fearless it would be a crime just to show what dj's you have. Although if you knew your party would be ram anyway, you could do that and it would be a wicked surprise!!!!

Finally someone gets me.

I've always been a believer that the ravers should decide who performs best.

If you put some artists names in huge letters you put ideas in their heads. You basically decide for them. I know the 'big names' have done more touring but still, if they are gonna perform well - they are gonna perform well! They shouldn't play any better or worse depending on their flyer status. They are not flippin popstars or one man bands! If all the other artists get the same size fonts it actually looks like an even better value night. Don't you agree?
If the argument's about reading posters from a distance pay a little more and do A1 or A0 size bills!

Let's face it, a great percentage of crowds ain't got the foggiest who's who in the rave or jungle scene. But, they will only remember the headliner whether the so-called warm-up DJ's / MC's were better or not!
It's not like the old days eh?

If Nicky wants to put Fearless, Shabba and Eks in bladdy hoooj letters to attract more people then I wonder if he's in it for the right reasons really.
It's kinda like telling everyone that we could never compete - DJ's and MC's! Or it's just plain sell-out / wack bizniss!
I can't complain if I've got a set with these guys but I've explained what I mean to him. Big up Tricky Nicky C all the same. [ Oxford peeps check Destiny FM 106.5 at weekends! ]

No disrespect to Brillo but...
ADAM F - huge letters
SHY FX - huge letters
Total Science - tiny? WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT???!!!
or more recently DJ MARKY - huge letters. Jay Jay / Baron / Lee? - invisible!
He can't have very much faith in his residents but personally I think they always deliver blindin sets!

I can't diss Obsessionz but as Nicky Blackmarket played an early set and his name was biggest on the page it's not wonder people were automatically leaving after he came off the decks is it?

What about Jonny D, Gomez, Jay Kay and all that lot? An injustice? What do you say?

dude, it's just basic marketing.. eye catching..

adam f would attract many more people than total science, thus his name is huge..

demand vs supply etc.

Adam F more important than Quiff and Spinback?
Come on Dave!
Adam F arrived in 1994/5 that's a good two or so years after Q-Project / Funky Technicians began producing anthems.
I've lost interest in Adam F.
It's all about Circles and Aromatherapy.
Source should be able to ram their event without exploiting certain artists!

Whatever happened to 'keeping it underground'?
If people can't be arsed to read a flyer properly then they shouldn't be calling themselves Jungle Ravers!

I feel sorry for the dj's ho get shoved in the corner or at the bottom. All the dj's are as important as each other as with the mc's.

Maybe making the main dj's slightly bigger but Not one dj having the whole flyer with others in the small print!!
