yo,
i've had a few peeps asking what all this house nonsense is, and when i'm gonna be playing dnb again....well, no more dnb for me, at least for the foreseeable.
if you're really into dnb and nothing else, check friction or marky, they always play the dnb i wanna hear, but right now i wanna play and make some house (i dunno if its actually house, there are a few dodgy sub genre names like fidget or wonk - i was thinking maybe 'crack house' kinda fits cos its like house but effed up)anyway... if you're open eared check that mix i did last month and see what you think - the link is on the front page, with the nice rainbow logo (big up dynamite, he loves a rainbow)
lemmie know if you're feelin it, but if you think i'm a traitor and should be burned, probably best to keep that one to yourself : )
Great, another artist who's lost faith in dnb. Not really surprising with the way the scenes going. Zinc has always been my favourite DJ technically and selection wise, most sets i heard him play between 2002-2006 i ended up buying pretty much every tune he played.
Jump up dnb has completely lost its soul imo.
I get the vibe from mampi sets that he has lost interest too, IC3 has started making house. Any other artists doing different things?

I don't blame him. As an artist who would want to do the same thing over and over for so long aless its the money thats driving him. Proves that hes into the music for the right reasons though and i guess hes found his creative inspiration elsewhere. Fidget house Is exploding amoment and ive been playing it awhile myself but i think as a subgenre it won't last long. Theres only so many classic tunes they can chop up! Its fun to mix though hey. Ashame its so poorly made just like the hardcore in 92. Them bar structures can really throw you if u dont know the tracks! Funny!!

When was the last time you saw Zinc booked at any big event. Old news imo and the last few sets i heard from him the selection was really poor and as for his last bits of production they were just awful truely awful.

the last zinc set i heard the selection was as good as ever.
His very last release was good imo, could have been made by C & S.

Zincs production was very poor towards the end, but i think he was trying to find a new sound, a sound that worked for him and for the ravers. I think his failure to find that new sound is one of the reasons he's moved on.
Zinc has made some of the greatest dnb tunes ever made, he was my inspiration when i got into djing and i am genuinly gutted he's gone.
Thank fuck for DJ's like marky, friction, randall etc...

is he? I wondered what he'd be playing at that cos it says he's playing a 2001 set and I didn't think Dubstep had been around that long??

i think dubstep has been around longer than people think, i remember reading an interview in 2002 with zinc saying hed been getting involved in that scene...

I think it'll be a 'roots' of dubstep set when it wasn't actually called dubstep.
Zinc is a legend and has the right to do whatever he wants musically, just like anyone for that matter.

The D&B scene is pretty awful these days. The only saving grace are the small isolated pockets of credible artists doing their thing. Even saying that a great deal of the music is just a rehash of previous ideas, there is hardly anything groundbreaking going on due to the relatively large constraints on the format of your typical D&B tune.
e.g.
intro. drop. let it roll for a while. mini-breakdown. 2nd drop. outtro.
It doesn't really change from that. It's pretty formulaic.

Well you could say that about any music out there.

The main thing that grates me about the scene is the lack of variety the dj's play at the big raves. When i 1st started raving in 03 it was full of variety with dj's like Zinc, Andy C, Bryan G, Friction etc all playing a wide range of tunes.
Too much disposable jump up around. The machete EP is a good example, everyone was going nuts for it when it promo'd and who's still playing any of the tunes in their entirety these days? No fucker, maybe a quick tease of one but thats it.
Zinc was always the most rinsed set of every tape pack for me, the man had seriously good taste/skills.

i think its all a matter of opinion, which keeps music interesting, regardless of which type your talking about. but would have to strongly disagree with the 'awfull' statemant i feel that since ive been listening to d and b the standard of production has increased, loads of quality producers have come/ are coming through.... theres lots of different styles of tunes/ producers coming through.. although i see what your saying with the example you've given on formulaic d and b..... however i feel if you deviate from the general formular too far then it stops becoming drum and bass
eg. pendulum.
The only negative thing about d and b i can see is the narrow mindedness of some drum and bass lovers that are so quick to hate against other styles of music including genres of drum and bass itself. And too quick to hate on other peoples style and version of what they think sounds good.
But getting back to the actual subject of the thread i think its wicked that Zinc has found new inspiration and good luck to him, and for him to say ''all those who think im a trator and should be burned''... this is perfect representation of that negative, narrowminded viewpoint that some people have.
Big up Zinc-- legend!!!

The "house mix" is pretty good, alot of tunes on there have that Zinc sound. It's 4/4 wobble dubstep to me.
@ FWD I reckon he'll play alot of earlier stuff from Bingo, all his stuff under Jammin, IE kinda funky, distraction, 138 trek etc....
Shame some of the talented older lot are losing intrest in the scene tho, always rated Zinc highly.

i agree that variety within one night / type of night / 1 dj's set, tends to be samey and i think this could change, but i dont think this is a reflection of a bad scene,
even back in 02/03 tunes got rinsed then vanished, eg, roni size - platime.. wolf remix ect. and every dj at big raves where playing them and tunes similar
I find at the big raves, the ravers are after a certain type of d and b and the dj's cater for that, theyre is plenty of variety out there, big raves are just a part of the d and b scene (the commercial part imo) and you cant judge the whole seen on that!!
Fully agreed on zinc tho mate!!!!
