The Joy of Decks is a brand new six part series on ITV1 and ITV2 produced in association with Smirnoff Experience.™
With the aim of finding the cream of underground talent, the series starts by showcasing the skills and personalities of eight up and coming DJs, chosen from a SHORTLIST of 23. The 23 were, in turn, chosen from 300+ nominations from all over the country, the result of asking over 120 record shops and industry influencers to nominate the most innovative music makers in their local area.
But, by the end of Episode 1, only four apprentices will be chosen by our MENTORS: Mr C, Roni Size, Sister Bliss and Tom Middleton.
We’ll follow the chosen four through a musical JOURNEY of a lifetime, as they learn the ups and downs of life as a professional DJ. They’ll experience Ibiza and how to cut their own track for a kick-off, and we’ll see them playing their own distinctive sets at major events all around the country – alongside their Mentors.
This isn’t reality TV and there’s no audience participation. It’s an informed look at the dance music scene with a small group of potential innovators showing us the way...
But, thanks to Smirnoff Experience™ at the end of the series one of the four will be selected, by a panel of industry insiders and experts, and that lucky individual will be signed up for a global Smirnoff Experience™ tour.
Which is nice.

Looks interesting - what do you reckon?
Roni says it's a mixture of Fakin' It and Pop Idol....
I reckon in a way it encourages yet MORE up n coming DJ's to jump on the bandwagon. Not sure if I'm feeling it!
Then again - what am I doing working in a youth project teaching 11-year-olds how to beat-match?!

LOL never thought of it that way!
At the end of the day if ppl dont have the passion for it they wont last! IF they do, and they get good its a bonus to the scene....even if they dont get good and it gives ppl a bit of purpose or opens up their mind to the possibilities of music... besides who wouldnt want lessons from roni size :D
Its all good!

No it's not....
It's called queuing up fucking 30 times before you are brave enough to start blending dude.
:badteeth:
When you are swift enough to begin the mix during the intro come back and we'll have a chat...
As for you Chemical, stop bouncing about for a bit and do something useful! :badteeth:
If you can't afford a whole sets worth of records you can always use the b-sides! :badteeth:
But we're all sympathetic and understand your predicament...
Let's move on.
The Joy Of Decks...
Anyone see it last night?
Roni Size is fucking BLING BLING innit. You see his yard?
Ouch. Millionaire? Getting there I'm sure....

Yeah but you've never heard me mix :P
Anywho, the records that i play have proper intro's, i.e not 4 bars of whoops and bleeps before a drum roll :badteeth:

Thank god....
Don't ya hate it when the DJ seems totally unaware that those two tunes sound absolutely REVOLTING on top of each other?!
Anyway - did ya see it again last night?
I like Tom Middletons policy of sampling real life sounds and using them as mad breakbeats...
I made a heavy snare from slamming a plate with a knife and fork on it down on the table.
I do have a soft spot for the old 2-step riddim but I promise myself I will move away from that at some point...
Sometimes, although I hear Manik and where he's coming from, it's nice to just put a blatantly simple roller out...
I mean - any of you with my 'Wellington Boots' know what I mean...
Technical wizardry is great fun. But sometimes I just want a good head nod to some simple sick shit! :):funk:
Squelchy.
