i've decided that i will more than likely take my redundancy and wax some of it on a shiny new PC which will be built.

who knows about ram? what is twinx ram?

any good brands to look for?

what do you make of the p4 2.8 [800] processor?

hit me back.

Did I hear someone say PC?? First off build it yourself and you'll get a really good deal and good PC. Keep in mind that any package you may want to buy from Dell has cut down versions of the components that you think you're getting.

I duuno what twin X ram is? It sounds like double layed or doubled up pins or something?

Get a giga byte mother board. IBM or fujitsu HDD, don't matter what Ram, just get 512 or higher.
Any case will do, but something flash always looks good.
Lite-on CD writer. Decent sound card. I'd say spend up to £200 on that, it's the most important thing if you want cyrstal clear sound.

Bulding a computer is almost as easy as putting a game into a mega-drive. There are only a few things that you need to know. all of which is explained in the Motherboard manual.

it's your call.

it will be hand built.

the soundcard is going to be m-audio 410 firewire
the ram will be 400mhz ddr twinx corsairs, maybe 1.5 gig of the stuff.

i'm stuck between going for an AMD barton chip or the p4 version with a faster FSB [some of them are like 533 or even 800mhz]

i'm such a pc lamer.

to this day i'm still adamant the amiga is the best computer ever made.

AMDs are better for games. Pentiums are better for Numbers

Music software technology falls inbetween the two.

It won't make that much difference what you go for. Yoiu should just go for the one that will leave more cash in your pocket!!!

well i'm looking at a few options now...

1) AMD Barton processor [probably a 2800]
2) AMD 64 bit
3) P4 [Hyperthreading chip]

i need to see if hyperthreading really does what intel imply.

also is there much point going for a stupid quick processor if the fastest FSB possibilities are 400mhz for AMD and 800mhz for intel.

oh decisions!

ps money isn't really much of a problem. my PC budget is £2000 inclusive of soundcard.

To be honest I'd go with what you KNOW works.

The 64 bit AMD will be good but how much software is 64 bit? hardly anything right now. You'd be better off waiting until 64 bit software comes out then get your computer otherwsie you'll waste a lot of power. It will all be there but it won't be used by pretty much most of the software you'll install on it for the next 6 months. By then the computer will come down in price.

The hyper threading P4. There's bound to be issues with this..... I don't really go with intel anymore. They did too much to corner the market when they held the monopoly and are now paying the price for being such twats. Plus I think their adverts on TV are bollox.... I mean why the fuck would a UFO come down and take a CPU then plug it in to there computer system and think it's wikid??? Just after they've obviously used much better technology to get over here! Born liars I tell thee

AMD don't really advertise as much because their products market themselves. Go with choice one. Go for 2 in 2004 2nd quarter.
