Big up Ceedee,

thought I'd post this public rather than PM as it may well be of interest to other people....

Currently www.bass-invaders.co.uk is hosted by one&one web services (www.oneandone.co.uk), and generally their service is good, especially the technical support. But they tried a nasty scam with me, plus I should have read the smallprint (or noticed that something was missing). After I'd registered the url with internic and all that shit, they decided to let me know that the basic account I had just signed up for did NOT allow ftp access to my webspace, therefore meaning that I could only use their BASIC drag/drop bullshit ONLINE editor to create my pages.. I have studied IT at advanced levels for almost 4 years, so it's fair to say I can do my own bloody design and would like to be able to upload my own html files to web space that belongs to ME (well, rented to me).

After much arguing along the lines of 'what fcuking use is webpace I can't ftp to' I managed to persuade one of the tech engineers to enable FTP for me, but for some reason no matter what I do I cannot manage to access my ftp space from any machine except my own at home, that pissed me off.

The point is I would like to end that contract and take out one with ftb as it sound better and I trust I can damn well ftp to it as standard without havinbg to spend ages moaning on the phone. Problem is, how do I go about TRANSFERRING while keeping www.bass-invaders.co.uk url (which I OWN for two years according to InterNIC)...

Do you know what steps I need to take? do I sort it your end or their end first.
btw - it will be the 100MB account I will want and I can even come to yer place and give you the cash if ya like, but I need to get this clear in my head first.

to all those who don't give a crap about this, I'm sorry you just spend half an hour reading it, but whose fault was that?

Safe all.

Hello mate :)

That's rubbish - a web host that doesn't allow you to FTP? What a pile of pants!

FTB hosting accounts have FTP uploading and Frontpage Extensions as standard so that you can upload either way. The way to move your site but keeping your domain name the same would be as follows:

1) Sign up for an FTB Hosting account
2) Transfer all the stuff on your current host to the account you've just created with FTB Hosting
3) Tell InterNIC (or whoever registered your domain) to change their DNS settings to match FTB Hosting's name servers (details of these will be sent in your welcome email)
4) Wait 24-48hrs for the world's DNS servers to update, and bingo, your domain now points to FTB webspace :)

Does that help?

B)
