Can't comment to much because I haven't heard the Source DJ's do much (purely because I've not been there) so the only DJ's I know are good are Chemical and probably DJ Lee through what you've said !! Plus there's an article on him in the new Knowledge mag !!

Sorry as I might want my money back if I go expecting DJ Chemical and he doesn't show!

It's happened before. This is why I'm asking.

I didn't want to have to spell it out for you...

D.J JOSSY AND D.J JAY JAY AREN'T AS GOOD AS D.J CHEMICAL AND D.J LEE.

I may be unusual here but not everyone is only going for the last hour.

I will be too mash-up by then to care about Fresh.

It's all about the residents, after all these are the stars of the future, it's a shame alot of peeps tend to miss the residents.

MIKEE HUSSLA
14th November 2003, 10:07 AM
I think nights should start at 11 and go through until 4.

Then you can get lively round someone's house or at the pub and then not miss the residents !!

I'm not usually at a night from the start to be honest.

thus probably a bit more opening.

sure thing, remember that you would more than likely be playing an early slot, thus you need to ensure you play to suit the style. i don't mean to be elitist but source does have slightly more musical integrity than your average d&b night, and as much as people may not be into the residents... they certainly are very dub savvy.

Well I've only ever played a certain style of slot so therefor one style has been seen really.

The reason I suggested to Jonny that I play a first set at Park End is so I can kind of show that I can be diverse and adapt to the time, capacity etc.

Yeah it was a quality night, dunno about jossy tho! Odd selection of tunes for the first set! The one guy on the dance floor was loving it though! Fresh was great, I was loving it :)

Big ups go to all that attended our little after party, System Ex & baz were proper mash up (haven't heard from them since so I hope you lads are still alive), big respect for the 6am in the morning countdown crew! Love ya long time ;)

For real!

I remember what Chemical said! If they can't afford acetates then they shouldn't be paid those fees!

I agree!

I ain't 'anti-CD-Digital' or anything but you can program in your mixes in advance!

We don't need a human. We just need someone to press START! :)

My thoughts on CD dubz:

1. Are cheaper than Dubplates, last forever and are better qaility than dubplates.

2. For any producer/dj is a better way of playing your own music or other producers music, ie. when you getting sent loads if CD's from artists then you might as well play them rather than cutting them as a dubplate can cost from 30-40 squid for two tracks.

3. If you are a producer/dj who isn't in the top 10% of highest earners then it seems stupid to pay out the above cash each time, very costly!

4. if your Fresh/Groove/Fabs then well, I guess its up to them, what ever they prefer/feel comfortable with as it is them who is playing/Djing for ya!

5. I'm for the CD mixing as now I am able to play tunes that I've never been able to mix before because I cannot afford to pay out for dubz.

Also, I don't beleive that any DJ out there actually pre-records there set, that would in fact defeat the object. I know that there is now software called Final Scratch which enables you to play your tracks straight from the PC on to the decks, I'm for that too!

All in all, I beleive it to be the way forward, and that it will not effect vinyl sales or those who play vinyl because it certainly wouldn't replace vinyl for me either, just another format!

@ Hussla & Manik. cheers for the props :D does the confidence a world of good to know that people actually like what i'm doing on the decks!

wrt cds... I agree with Chemical on this one. There's no way that I can afford to get a dub cut! especially at £30 when you're only gonna get a max of 30 plays out of it. I can't even afford records at the minute!!!!!

so if I want to play my own stuff or other peoples, then i have to do it from CD.

how can it be cheating?!?! get with the times. I know that vinyl has a beautiful sound that you can't get from a cd but when Concord Dawn played at source - jesus he smashed it. pretty much all cds & no-one complained. & Dylan and Tech Itch were pretty much using CDs all the way at Rebel Faction - rinsed it!

azonica
1st December 2003, 07:15 PM
I don't mind DJ's using CD decks, some house DJ's only play off CD decks, at the end of the day its what you feel comfortable with.

I know what you mean....

About a year ago I was the most stubborn anti-digital DJ there was [poshibly!] but now I too am slowly being convinced that digital mixing is opening doors...

True, pre-mixing defeats the object!

Some up n coming DJ's [or competitions] who ain't as confident might take advantage though. It becomes like miming! Top Of The Pops business!

It's hard to tell if you ain't in the DJ box with them though innit! :)

Do what DJ Craze does and has a platter to scratch with and applies samples to the platter rather than having any CD's or anything !!

But to the point, at the people producing on the forum . .

If you have some tunes on a cd (which you will have), are you gonna go and get each one cut to play them out ??

sure, I would confidently say that no top dj pre records or any of that nonsense, it ain't possible to do! maybe an up n coming may do a cheaky demo but not in the clubs.

tech it played in reading last week- no dubs just cds!

forwards and onwards!
