Management consultant Jackie Slater thought she was completing a normal shopping trip to Morrisons until the checkout assistant demanded to see her ID before scanning two bottles of wine.

"I told her I was really flattered, but I was the wrong side of 50," she said. But the assistant pointed to her 17-year-old daughter, Emily, and her 18-year-old niece, Annice, who were standing at the end of the checkout chatting.

"She asked: 'Are they with you?' I said they'd come to help me carry the bags back to the car. The assistant said: 'You could be buying the wine for them. It's the policy – I have to see everyone's ID to make sure they are all over 18'."

yeah all this over zealous i.d'ing id starting to piss me off. get id'd for fags and booze and the regualar these days. takes the piss aswell as your only allowed to show a driving license or passport. i dont drive and i dont think to take my passport when i nip to the shop to buy smokes! i understand the problem they are trying to combat but come on, common sense and judgement should be the main guidline imo. i certainly hope i dont look 17!

One guy had id his girl didnt, she was paying on her card, but didnt have ID, all they need to do is get cash out next time.
Once people wise up, even the ones who are doing it for minors can get round it really easily! is it meant to deter paedo's from going shopping with teens? lol

its not so much that, its when you give idiots the power to be jobs worths, it might have been cos the kids were spanish but the guy on the till was being a right pr!ck lol it might have been that i was reallly hungry as well and waiting around at the check out is like the prize just being out of reach!

i worked in a job where we were required to request ID from anyone who appeared to be under 21. A couple of people i worked with used to love IDing anybody, even if they were blatantly about 25. They would then take pleasure in refusing to serve them if they failed to produce. It used to fuck me off. Traffic Warden mentality
