It had to be done. If our credit rating gets rinsed the pound would slide massively and things would get more expensive anyway. At least this measure shows the wider world that there are concrete plans to get things moving in the right direction.

As much as I hated the idea of a Con/Dem government they've actually been pretty decent so far. I think they should have gone further with regards to a review of means-tested benefits, especially reducing the maximum threshold of Child Tax Credits, it makes zero sense that a household can earn sixty grand a year and still claim it! They should means-test child benefit too.

Like:

Making mothers go back to work when the youngest starts school

Making pensions in line with earnings

Capital gains tax rise for the better off

Raising the tax band

Dislike:

Could have stopped or reduced forigen spending

Could have means tested child benifit

Could have means tested winter fuel payments

There's more but I can't be fucked to go on.

Just read that they have capped child tax credits, good!

Do the same with child benefit please!

I agree that benefits should be capped, but what about the hardworking people who genuinely rely on CTC and CB to get by?

At that level of earnings it's pittance, I'm sure they can manage on £25-£50 a week less if they really tried.
