same as . Could prolly tell you more about helter skelter than i can oxfords scene. To be fair its only really taken off in the last few years IMO.

Apart from the minchery farm days - big love etc and raging rabbit i dont kno about it at all.

When i started going to dnb in oxford it was either Depth Charge, or Source. They always had good line ups and the dates never clashed...and you were always guaranteed a good dnb rinse out every other wk.

To be fair you need more older dnb heads on here to ansa those sorta questions

I'm not much help, but when I started really getting out it was all about Source and Depth Charge, Douggie has to have a big mention surely. He's a legend. He's supported the scene for time, always happy to lend a helping hand to. Proper nice genuine bloke

Ai, Brillos also a 'bit' of a legend, the source before last he was vomiting in to a dustbin outside the Zodiac at 9.30pm. Lol. ;)

Joking apart, I remember the early days of the source, when it used to cost about £4 to get in and it used to be a social occasion for the headz. Everybody knew everybody. It's almost been to successfull for it's own good.

IMO the major players are:

Paul (dj suv)
the invisable man
quiff n spinback
duggie
brillo

labels:

pharoe
timeless
cia
im sure theres some others i dont know about which were based in Oxford

i think loaf and destiny f.m are a major key, as they are doing something different, i mean everyone wants to promote, dj, mc etc, too many sheeps and not enough shepards.and it dosnt cost money to listen to choon.

not well educated on the clubside of things as ive only been allowed in clubs for the past couple of years, but from what ive heard minchery used to rock as did totem soul. i think nights that have come and gone like bbl sound and expression have helped as they brought new artists to oxford.
reload have helped bring some life back into the coven,
rumpshaker bringing drum n bass to park end is healthy, and pisses those townys off
obviously depth charge and source as they are the only ones to last reasonable amount of time ( i cant wait for the return of depth charge:cool: )

everyone djs/mcs/promotes/buys/sells choons/ ravers etc are all part of the development within the oxford dnb scene

Dance Planet are still my all time favourites!
If only they were still running!

Do you know what happened to Iks and the DPO since the Detonator raves?

Big up Manik - if I remember correctly I know what this is about... ;)

I'm a relative newbie to Oxon [Early 2001] so I'm still learning!

From my point of view...

Began my mission in late 2001 after finishing my album 'North South East West' in isolation pretty much, and a good chance to detox from Mary Jane...

I moved to Oxford as returning to the UK after 8 months in SE Asia was depressing! Thought "I live in England, yet I've spent most of my life in fucking Exeter! Time to see a bit more of *my* country!" innit.

My aunt invited me to stay with here until I get on my feet. Drove her bananas with D 'n' B, she should have seen that coming. Moved downtown OX4.

Saw posters advertising BBL Sound with a couple of phone numbers I texted by ICQ...

Met Bravo and Trick in the Elm tree and, whilst still looking for a venue for CS, supported John and Nick a bit in their showcase of 10 or so parties in the Bully...

Thanks to John for booking me once or twice in the process!

Met Gem OBSession who also helped me gain recognition here - thanks to you to!

Met Gomez and Version from Generator and together we launched a showcase of 11 or 12 weekly Thursday and Saturday night raves in the Jam Factory from late September till December 2002...

Thanks to Gomez and Version for giving me an opportunity book people and also play out a bit more regularly as well...

I guess I was buzzing at the sheer volume of people I met in such a short space of time....

Oxford Alliance 2002 was an attempt to pull more ravers in by touching on all the crews [we knew of] in Oxford town plus elsewhere, every party. Kind of a celebration of how many fresh faces were coming through..

People who know me know that I think BOLLOCKS to all this 'must get a household name down' shit.

IT CAN BE DONE WITHOUT! SO THERE!!

Had some crrrrrrrazy ones with like 30 up n coming MCs drowning out the music, sound systems blowing and pissheads lobbing drinks! :) On one occasion at least...

Great fun! Good memories! Although at the time, despite G and Vs relaxed attitude I was giving myself a damn stomach ulcer by stressing too much!

Lost some friends due to them not realising I wasn't choosing favourite bookings down to best friends, more to do with enthusiastic support!

Made friends back again later afterwards.

Early 2003 Generator was running at a loss so Gomez and Version packed it in....

Coral Jam Factory contacted me about running the Thursday nights there...
I had just advised Gomez to quit because Jam Factory haven't pulled their weight in making events run smoothly, so I did feel guilty about taking Corals offer. I in no way wished to go 'behind their backs' as one member of Generators DJs suggested.

At the end of the day I'm a drum n bass hungry junglist running out of time. I must breakthough myself and others soon or else we will be too old to make an impact!

I did take Corals offer, with a few modified conditions, and in late January 2003 myself and DJ Phista with support from the top boys at Method [Shuffs, Hussla, Trauma, Fraser, Latz, MJ, Jonny B, Playa J etc] put on six weekly / fortnighly events under the heading 'Break Convention'.

The idea being to quite literally break convention! :badteeth:

Prove that enthusiastic up and coming acts can actually generate a good vibe, reduce entry costs due to lower rates and volunteer performers and get the place busy enough to make it worthwhile.

Plans to launch another Centrifugal Sound [hopefully longer running] showcase are still in the planninmg stage. WATCH THIS SPACE!

Big up all those who I have worked with in starting to do our bit for the local scene...

Big up Spinback, Quiff, Manikular, Lunar, Trends, Duggie Depth Charge, Jossy, Mattrick and any one else I've forgotten for their hard work over the years...

Still not really met Brillo or Digital - respect to them as well... Be nice know their opinions on the kids coming through.

Log in! :)

Definately Dougie & all the Depth Charge kru, they had the best nights in Oxford that I know of...Quality nights everytime & the best crowd.

I have only been in Oxford a few years, so I really only know a little..

I think FTB has helped a fair bit, we've managed to get plenty of heads together, & peeps have made plenty of friends on here. Also it's helped hook peeps up with diffirent peeps for diffirent nights.

there's also plenty of nights that have paved the way forward for bigger & better things in the up coming years. Depth Charge, BBL, Expression, Kinetic, Oxford Alliance/Break Convention, HQ, Rebel Faction, Formula...not forgetting of course my baby, Compound. I think we at Compound had a good thing going last year with D&B midweek action, it set the way for such nights as Break Convention. Watch this space for further info regarding Compound next year...I'm saying no more!:)

Now we've got an inlux of D&B in Oxford, with several nights now going, & of course Destiny FM now on the airwves.. Not forgetting the 2 trial runs of D&B on Altered FM.

D&B in Oxford has become hugely popular & is growing stronger & stronger.

There's so many talented DJ's, MC's & producers in Oxford it's unreal, this is all good for D&B in Oxford.

I'm generally sorry if I scapegoated Manikular! Hope you see where I'm coming from!

Coming to oxford as a student, i would thank rich reason and riz for their hitnrun nights which helped shape my opinions etc on drumnbass and the scene in oxford. Just a bit more intimate than Source and less pikeys. Thanks to Raw @ Mixed Futures for support and guidance in the early days. Thanks also to the Meltdown crew (dis, frenic, smokey, carnage...) for giving a youngster a chance. Shame it never seemed to quite make it. Source for introducing me to bigger (though not always better) things...
