View Full Version : A Little Project For The Oxford Tru-Skool Headz

ok. so we all know oxford has a massive drum&bass following, it amazes me how many people are into it. We have alot of up&coming artists out there too, myself included of course. anyhows I have a proposal for anyone who may be interested..
I've decided to develop an idea i've had for a while, showcasing some of the talent our fair country has.. I want to write an album of beats focusing on raw vocal driven tracks.. be it drum&bass / breaks / hip hop etc. but I only want oxfordians involved, this way we can really get put on the god damn map.
oxford has just as much talent as bristol.. and before you all flame me, here is something you may not know... DJ Suv isn't from Bristol, he's from Oxford. he just jumped ship :) anyhows.. it's all about strength in numbers, just look at the So Solid crew, yeah yeah yeah i know it's a shit example but look at them.. they all have audi TT's and the rest of it.. bling bling bollocks..
I really think oxford has enough charicters to create an interesting enterty, and with the Rareform project I produce for currently taking a well deserved breather I have time to assist in producing some beats.. I also have various other friends and associates who would be up for this including a very well know turntablist who would be more than willing to add some cuts to the mix ;-)
does this seem like a good idea or is manik going of on one (as per)..
anyway if you think it does hit me with an e-mail
david@newvision.org - davemanik@vodafone.net
i await to hear criticism of the constructive variety and any further suggestions!

Manik I think this is a wicked idea man :D B)
I've sent u an email, and I agree, oxford's scene is sweet and the people in it are too :) as for the quality of general production in oxford there's only one way to find out: get all the work together like you're suggesting :D

Yes mate.
Oxford is one of those places that people are only just starting to notice and if we could get something like this recognised then it couldn't happen at a better time.
I'd be up for writing some beats and getting together with everyone. In fact, I'll start a poll, and people can vote on it WRT date and venue for a FEELTHEBASS meet.
Need to chat to you about PR as well....

well i'm on at tim from the cellar to open HQ @ 7pm on the 22nd december so maybe we can meet there, a major benefit of this is that the happy hour promotion will be in full effect...
the mainstay of this project will of course be drum&bass however i want to make it accessable, and by no means does this mean commercial..
if we are going to push us lot in the right direction, it will need to be good quality too... all good in the hood ;)

Wicked idea mate!
all we need to do is put our heads together and see what we can come up with, its fair to say were all dedicated and wholehearted enough to do SOMETHING to get us noticed.
an ep/lp is a sweet idea!
Tho i have my own as well... How do you guys feel about putting on some HUGE event that wil get people travelling all the way from the likes of bristol/birmingham and London ect...
whats your opinion on hiring out where they had TRUCK FEST. getting a few rigs (or hooking up loads of em for some heavy ass system!) i think i could get a few free party rigs together thru my mate at work that might be up for the session.
im just not sure of how to go about getting things together for a weekend rave..? Tents are obviously the only way they're gonna be able to stay over for the whole weekend (so that whittles down the pussies from the hardcore!)
some help from people who have organised any outdoor events or anyone thats up for helping would be very much appreciated, as id very much like it to happen before im 40 0dd... ;)
Obviously money will be an important issue here... i dont actually have any. i survive on phuck all a week, with not even enough to smoke as much hash as id like to. let alone taking on major projects like this
Sorry for hijacking your thread Dave... its something ive been thinking about for months, and i thought see'ing as were airing ideas on getting proper shit done, it would be a good place to make this post
Respect!

great idea but the possibilities of throwing an event of a dance orientation outdoors is very minimal indeed. look what oxfordshire district council did to the shurey brothers who ran the original universe, they helped to bankrupt them..
Truck Fest is a great event, but there is so much time and effort that goes into it, remember licence hearings cost money and of course a certian bill which was passed on the 1st may 1994 will come into it's own too. councils hate dance/rave music.
truck fest is a folk music festival, obvisiouly it has it's dance meanderings but it's heart really is in accoustic guitar music, the council love them guys and will happily award a licence, but only as it's a charity event.
i'm well up for throwing an out door do, we have the system ready and waiting, it's a question of venues etc.. it's a tough one for sure.

Well, no computer! but im managing to keep 3 tracks stumbling along on Gem's pc that could turn into something...
they may not be the style you're looking for, ie. there's no vocals and they're pretty solid (as opposed to liquid).
I'm not really looking to promote any of my tracks until I have my own PC and a decent sample library, but I'll make them available for "contructive criticism" once they're done. :D
