Venue Problems x2

Hi all, Just after a general opinion.

Despite the success of my last night at the zodiac with Nicky Blackmarket, I can still only have Sunday nights (upstairs or down) as it is all that is currently available.

I am in two minds as to whether or not to run nights on a sunday. I am concerned that the turnout will not be good enough to cover costs. I will be getting names down, so I would appreciate your opinions!

Another option is to find a venue that is available on a more social night. But this is proving difficult as well. If you have any ideas on a suitable place let me know! Doesn't necessarily have to be in Oxford!

if it was my decision id stick with the zodiac to see what happens, if it turns out to run at a loss for a few weeks. either twist people arms to play for free, cut costs else where. and if that doesnt work then id consider moving venue, cos loads of people are trying to start nights (we are lol, tho its slowed down now cos we cant find a half decent venue) all over the place. if you do move id say make sure you have another place before you go, cos your fooked if you dont =/

All of the DJ's I use are generally safe and never ask for money. But I always give them something. The only costs I have are the name DJ, promotion and the venue and that alone costs enough!

As for trying to start nights up I can see what you mean. There are loads of nights starting up all the time, especially in oxford. The problem with that is as you say, most of the decent venues are being taken up by half hearted promotors - usually kids! Give it time and I'm sure something will become available.

But in the mean time it's doing my nut in :blink:

I'll just have to keep proving myself at the zodiac, and if I nag nick enough he might give in! Fingers crossed. Doesn't help me at present tho.

yeah but it's the whole demand vs supply thing...

alot of people are too shallow to venture out to a night with just loadsa locals playing....

I discovered that with Blackmarket. He can't mix as well as some of the local talent(!) but pulled in ten times the amount of people!

Plus with it being a sunday, i'm gonna need somebody to draw in the crowds. And to get them to save some money from the weekend!

Not Nicky though. I'm tired of that route.

it's all about doing the shitty stuff... like handing out flyers at other nights at 2.00am in the rain.

if you want someone to do that then i don't mind...
