If you're on about putting a computer together yourself I can ask my mate for a website which literally has the cheapest parts on the net.

;)

that might be a viable option but i'll probably get someone to build it for me with a good support package... i'm clumbsy!

As we chatted about earlier, the best way to do it if you know someone who can, is get someone in the know to build you one to your own specification.

Esp as you are focusing on producing, you get everything you need and generally it's at a fraction of the cost.

My Aunties brother has built alot for the computer literate in my family, and if I had stopped and thought about it, thats where I should have gone. Not because i'm computer literate by any stretch of the imagine(!) But simply because for him to build the same standard of machine we got from PC world (DOH) it would have been half the price at least.

But my machine died on me completely durinig alot of coursework I had to complete during my training. On the spur of the moment we just went out and got another!

If you want I can give you Andrews number. B)

a) PC World is part of the Dixons group, I would sooner be hit by a car than give that company any of my money.

B) I need a firm which can supply me with a warranty and also a finance package

c) the machine needs to be at least 2.8ghz clock speed - boh!

it's cool. i know how to handle those spotty unknowledgeable tipes who usually sell pc's in establishments akin to the likes of Time and PC World..

We get 15% off with Dell so I might go with them, but the only issue is that they don't sell sound cards and I can't put one in myself becuase it will invalidate the warranty...

damn!

Is that really neccesary??

Its just that I heard that, proccessor wise, there is nothing out that will really tax your pc past about 2GHz. I know its hard to believe but my sources were implying that, for games especially, you will not notice any difference in performance by buying a pc with huge clockspeed.

Its like the software developers havn't caught up with the hardware manufacturers yet.

However, I guess for production software that may not apply.

Personally I'd rather get just a 2GHz processor and put the extra dosh into 2 Gigs of RAM!
You would probly get more of a performance increase from that.

my mate has a 2.2ghz pc and a 3.06ghz pc... and for what we will be doing the latter is much better becuase of the threading tech. but i'm not as into pc's as my mate, he's a genius! ->> there is a difference apparantly...

2 gig of ram!

rahhh!
