Please read - Gem's Phone!

At sometime during the weekend, Gem's phone has gone missing. Before you read what I am about to write I must point out that I'm not insinuating that anyone stole the phone etc, i'm just trying to help Gem find it. seen.

The phone in question is a sharp GX10 which is registered to Vodafone via the Vodafone "Retail" subdivision... Just to point out.. I actually work for these guys...

I'm about to persue a trace for the handset, each phone has a unique serial number known as an IMEI number [if you would like to find your own, please type *#06# on your own mobile and see what happens]. I have Gem's IMEI number at work so as soon as i'm in my office tomorrow I shall start the trace.. now here is the good part...

when a mobile phone is switched on, it's always communicating with the network via transmitters called "Cell Sites"... these sites are all over the place and becuase of the nature of the system [uk mobiles use GSM currently], these cell sites are usually about 1-4 miles apart.. why am i telling you this... well if the phone is being used, we can triangulate and ascertain where the phone is [just like how the police do in murder enquiries etc].. which means we can usually pin point an address where the phone is or has been. now gems phone is GPRS which means it's constantly connected to the network, so its even easier to locate it..

what if you put a different sim in? hard luck it's locked for Vodafone.. and even if you managd to unlock it... it's the IMEI we trace [unique to the mobile]

i'm writing this becuase the phone cost £200 - and then there is the remaining part of the contract [some 10 months]

basically the phone is useless to anyone else because if we can't locate it, i'll just bar the actual imei which means no sim in the entire world will work in it. so one wouldn't even be able to access the menu, thus meaning that you couldn't even play the games on it.

as i said earlier i'm not insinuating that any of you lot have nicked the phone, but the whereabouts is unknown.. if you know where the phone is or find it somewhere.. please drop me a PM.

~ guest list for the streetbeats goldie event
~ addition to the new vision and formula inc. label mailing lists

its not so much the material phone and the financial loss to me that I'm worried about. Its the very important business numbers, and precious personal messages, pictures and general memories I've had saved on it for an awful long time that i'll miss terribly. Ben said it was put somewhere safe so if anyone does remember where it was put (I know everyone was hammered) please let me know!

I have very little spare cash, but there's a few record vouchers in it to for its return! I don't believe that anyone at coombz's Sat night would intentionally take it. I know there's a perfectly genuine and logical explanation. B)

PS. It turns out it wasn't insured so I really am buggered :( :( :( :( :(

Well if that aint motivation to find it then I dunno what is :)

There were a couple of non-regulars there that night. ie people who I havn't seen around in a long time who very few people actually knew. If u r bright u will know who i am talking about but im not saying any names to anyone - on the internet or otherwise - because I dont know for sure.

also, if it was this person (ppl) I hav no way of contacting them or proving it.

Hopefully may suspicious mind is wrong ansd you will find it down the back of coombz bunk bed or summit.

people are innocent untill they are prooved to be guilty. i wasn't there so i can't pass judgement. i just hope gem gets her phone back becuase the replacement cost is circa £350

The trace will point to Crowmarsh Classics, Wantage Rd, Didcot

Meaning that the phone is at coombz's only it's under a floorboard or summit!
