Saw this on drum n bass arena today,

'The number of people convicted of running pirate radio stations doubled last year, according to the government's Radiocommunications Agency (RA).'

it's a pity that the RA are government funded therefore having access to like wicked technology and shit, and those who deserve RESPECT for setting up pirate radio out of their OWN pockets to BENEFIT listeners like us are getting arrested moreso now then ever...

well, that's it.

What happens when things go wrong?

Most people are reasonably law-abiding but some users of radio have very little idea of how radio works and they may be tempted not to comply with the licensing regime. The Agency will usually try to help people bring themselves within the law. Where necessary the Agency will not hesitate to prosecute or take other enforcement action under the Wireless Telegraphy legislation to prevent the interference caused by those who operate without a licence or who contravene their licence or an exemption. We can seize apparatus found in unlawful use, and courts can order its forfeiture.

[GLOW]Transmitting offences under the WT Act 1949
Transmitting offences under the WT Act 1949, attract a maximum penalty of £5000 and/or imprisonment for a term not exceeding 6 months if tried in a magistrates court or, in Scotland, a Sheriff's court, or an unlimited fine and/or 2 years' imprisonment if tried before a jury. A court may order all or any

of the apparatus of the station or
apparatus in connection with which the offence was committed, including record collections, vehicles, portable telephones, etc.

to be forfeited to the Secretary of State.

In addition, anyone convicted of a radio offence could find themselves barred from a career in broadcasting.sting.

Depends, they might say pack up your shit and fu(k off, but you'd be lucky.

They can:
Take your records and take your equipment, you wont get them back, they are sold.
Fine you or imprison you for broadcasting without a license.
Fine you or imprision you for not being a member of the PRS.
Fine you for causing radio interferance.

Best bet, set up a repeater onto of a high building and have someone watch over it, that way the agency will trace the signal to the repeater... when they get there, your 'spy' phones you and tells you to stop broadcasting.
Or try mobile but how you gonna mix fuck knows, plus cant put a MASSIVE arial on top of a car init!!

you can get a longer term if you interfere with emergency frequencies..

with the current rollout of uk-wide digital radio, pirate radio will soon by a thing of the past.

the government want to decommision the fm wave band within the next few years and it's infinately more difficult to be a "digital" pirate... however with the dawn of the broadband revolution upon us i think the pirates will switch to another medium.

the problem with FM radio is that the frequencies used are not far from the frequencies used by commercial aircraft and also transmissions from the emergency services. there have been horror stories about pirates phazing into there channels, personally i think it's bollocks! just scaremongering. as soon as broadband becomes commonplace for most people i think pirates will thrive via the internet... especially when internet radio standalone devices start filtering through.

maybe sky should give a few channels to the pirates.. audio takes up fuck all space and i'm sure sky is no where near capacity.. that would rock!

im all for pirate radio!

but theyre using a frequency out of a certain amount... so it had to be paid for in their eyes, even tho these frequencies just 'exist' and everyone should have the right to utilise this. not just those with a load of money!
