British Hip Hop Events?

what are peoples veiws on the british hip hop scene around these parts ? is there a big following?

also what are peoples opinions on a mixed night of d&b an hip hop for example with an A-LIST uk hip hop act and a b-list d&b act would people reach?

May want to post this on the hip hop board., lots of promoters on there.

Personally, as a consumer rather than a DJ, I think Oxford has a far larger DNB contingent than UK hiphop.

It can be quite hit and miss - sometimes events are rammed (e.g phi life cypher, scratch perverts, yoda, slick rick, killa kella) but they're normally in pretty small venues. Rodney P played at the Zodiac last term and wasn't busy, Mr Thing @ Ponana also had a bad turnout, Klashnekoff was pretty average.

Hit and Run (student dnb night) did a hiphop showcase instead of their regular early dnb and that was probably their least busy nite.
The only purely resident, regular night (as far as I know) of hiphop is Sketchy and I think that does ok, a lot of the same crowd.

To be fair I've probably missed out on a fair few...

You never know with nights until you do them - it could work.

As far as I'm aware Slick Rick hasn't been in the UK for years. He hasn't got the right papers to get back to the US. He's an illegal there and had a load of shit a couple of years back but didn't get deported for some reason - can't remember why.

He's been booked for a few gigs early this year but it looks very unlikely he'll be coming over...

think he was originally scheduled for a january beats'n'rhymes but after the rodney p/zodiac night, things got cancelled etc. have also heard he would get arrested if he came back to the Uk like Roscoe said.
