Well the persistant problem cropped up again it seems with some In:Motion pikey MIC grabbers.
What can be done?
Here's what this lot think...

we had this problem at UNCERTIFIED for the 1st few events.
here's what we did
1) Made sure we were constantly on hand to make sure it didn't happen.
2) When it did we we're firm and polite about getting them off (told them that we would happily take a Demo)
3) Made security aware that it could be a potential problem. They then kept their eyes on it.
4) Put up posters saying Booked MC's only
5) We only booked MC's that were capable of retaining the Mic (even under pressure) BIG UP MC WREKKA
6)Instituted a "no tracksuit and cap" policy- kept alot of that crew away.
7) Remianed consitant - even if people came and asked politely who we new were good we didn't let them on the mic until they had been booked - no doubler standards.
No one blags us anymore

Also, the Standard of the MCing is very high at UNCERTIFIED (partly due to the fact it's not an MC lead event)
over time this has put off those that "think they can MC" because they know of the true talent that will be performing.
If you have a poor "biddi biddi" mc as a resident or guest then you are asking for wannabe MC's to blag the mic
Our MC's have been
Wrekka
Contact
Miss Trouble
Mantmast
Lowqui
Stirlin
System
Shylo
Qdini
SP
Killa B
Manikular

dubplate ya dun know!
@ source we have security by the stage all night
@ hq there are so many of us around the mic area no one would dream of taking the mic of us
when people have asked @ hq i asked them to list their fave 5 mcs.
now if any one actually said sp, fats et all then they would have probably have been given a go!

It's a real breath of fresh air when you're able to perform at an event without the hassle of any long-armers. I've lost count of the number of times I've paused my flow to let a breakdown roll or a vocal drop, only to have some gurning moron try to grip the mic from me thinking I've finished.
As Jibs said over on DOA - a DJ wouldn't expect to be allowed to spin if they turned up at the booth with a crate-full of vinyl, so why should MCs have to put up with it?

That's exactly what i said on thursday to Playa J. Was booked for In Motion, but some dickhead who thought he was the bizness wouldnt let him have the mic and kept dissappearing into teh crowd. Not very fair really.

IMO that's the promoters Fault.
No way he should let that happen.

Maybe someone should invent a Mic like the guns off Judge Dread, if a person who is not booked grabs the mic it recognises this fact and blows thier hand off
I feel this would solve the problem

That's a good idea Zon.
I'm holding out for biometric-based microphones which will only operate once the registered user's thumbprint hasd been verified.

Plus he was there with his "crew" of people so if he did decide to take the mic off him then he would of probably got into trouble !!

Mic blaggers are some of the worst things about dnb and can easily ruin nights.
It's everyones responsibility to make sure this doesn't happen.

This is what has been tried at in motion......
Stage passes, Security by the stage, staging removed, introduction of radio mics, signs,
unfortuantely the promoter there cannot be in ten places at once, if someone wants to come and, do the door, do the stairs, look after the dj's, deal with the sound, make sure that there is enough change, all the small things that arent seen as well as lookl after artists, then they are more than welcome...
IF anyone has any ideas, on how the situation can be improved I am willing to listen, I placed joke mic's to hand out to people asking for a go. But they went missing......
the other option is to turn mic's off until headliners arrive, or stand behind the dj, where another mc's stands at the edge of the stage, not letting people on.

Sorry if it sounded like i was having a pop (i take it you are the promoter?)
is it just you that organises the night?
Admittedly there are 2 of us incharge of Uncertified which makes it easier - but is an allnight long job either on the door or "mingling"
but we have residents who we call upon to help out and a couple of close friends who helps us as well.
Do you have any resident DJ's and MC's - maybe you should ask them to shoulder some of the responsibility?

These are the resident mc's......
thats my point,
IF they stood behind the decks, with one mc stoppin people gettin on the stage, then that would not happen.....
But it seems easier to hand the mic on.

My only suggestion in that case is to get some new resident MC's.
or have it MC free until your headliner arrives
