Big Top: It is run by one of Bristol’s foremost promoters and DJ’s, John Stapleton of BlowPop (voted Bristol’s number 1 club night) and Dope on Plastic fame. John’s club and promotional activities extend way beyond the boundaries of Bristol and include performing at Glastonbury for the past 15 years and DJ sets around the world, including being contracted to perform for the Athletes’ Party at the Sydney 2000 Olympics. The Big Top presents organic music covering all genres of musical tastes, from hip hop to funk and jazz breaks to drum and bass, but all geared towards the Giles Peterson kind of audience. The marquee is at the cutting interface between live music and the club scene and has presented the likes of Moloko, Rae and Christian and Fingerfing, Fillibusters
Club Stage: The Club Stage is situated directly opposite to the festival entrance and at the top of the festival site. It is the first element of the event that the crowds hear and regularly draws over 10,000 clubbers a day. It is quite possibly the only stage that attracts its own audience, with many people coming specifically to spend the weekend soaking up its atmosphere. The diversity and quality of music is the main pull, as live sets of drum and bass, techno, breakbeat, trance, trip-hop, etc, mingle with live MC’s and singers. Bristol is at the cutting edge of the UK’s club scene, boasting some of the best known DJ’s and club nights from underground to mainstream. The likes of Full Cycle, Drive By, Lisa Lashes and Tom Harding (Mix Mag winner) have all supported the Club Stage and recognise it as the biggest club ‘night’ on the Bristol calendar. The Club Stage goes from strength to strength and is developing in to an exciting multi-media project, with 2002’s live Internet broadcasts and radio link-ups planned for 2003.
