Not necessarily - depends on the mc's in question - it only becomes a problem when certain uninvited mc's turn up and start demanding the mic and crowding round the dj in groups re. Tad Shiraz. imo all of these mc's are able to complement the dj and have the necessary skills to add to a night, not detract from it.
See where your coming from Stu but it does annoy when dj's make these sort of throwaway comments without really thinking about how it could work to your advantage. At the end of the day if a dj request 0/1 mc on their set then it's fair enough.

Yeah man, if all mc's act in a professional manner then I can't see it being a problem.

I have no issues with MC's, in fact I much prefer nights with MC's as I do believe they add to the music.

I just have visions/fears of this potentially turning into a free for all. I doubt anyone on here wants that to happen at all as it would taint the reputation of the night.

I'd say the 1st/warm up set doesn't need an MC (which I presume I'll be doing), although a bit of hosting my be good to introduce the night

There should be something that says only booked MC's on the mic both on the fliers & around the venue...

A security presence would deter any would be mic grabbers - 1-2 on the door and 1 near or in view of the stage. A night I do in Gloucester had a major mic grabbing problem (around 10 grabbers and 3 booked mc's), and only when a member of security were present did this stop.

Specific sets where the DJ's and MC's are pre-arranged are also a good idea - i.e 1DJ/1host MC, 1 DJ/2 MC's, etc. - attention paid style of the DJ's tunes in relation to the mc's style is important. And obviously if a DJ requests specific MC then that applies as well.

Sort these issues and there should be no problem.
