OK.

I'm fairly new to the scene realistically but considering only last week there were two Drum 'n' Bass nights within a 5 minute walk from each other which probably did each other out of pocket a bit and brought down the atmosphere due to smaller numbers of ravers in each.

What seriously can be done in future to stop this sort of thing from happening?

You obviously can understand now why I have put in this topic as for now we're looking at two nights on May 4th Bank Holiday. Gem has had this booked for a while and I am unsure as to the reasons behind Kinetic being on the same date but you can see straight away how this will cause friction between people.

It is not like the two whole nights are populated by DJ's who are unaware of each other in terms of what is going on. There are people on both line ups that are friends and know each other well and for example I would like to go and check out Gem's night as I have not been to one before and I think it willl be good but then there's the fact that a lot of my mates who are DJing at the Coven (some for the first time) and would love to support them. This is putting me in an awkward position as well as others I belive.

Is there anything at all that can be done ? This is very frustrating, more so I imagine for the people running the nights.

when i announced that market saturation was occuring within the small fraternity of oxford, i was laughed at. i'm rather happy that someone else has decided to post this becuase i really didn't want get on my high horse and yell "i told you so". basic economies of scale would show that not everyone can go to every night and when said events occur on the same night, well it just beggers belief.

i'm disheartened to see people try to ruin the vibrant scene of oxford, is it arrogance or ignorance or just plain stupidity?

I don't know what else to say really. You get to the point when this happens that you may just not go to either and bugger off to a house night or hip not night or something because you get hassle if you went to one and not the other. :mellow:

Since we're on the topic I feel I need to explain...

Thing is Mike, Break Convention 7 was actually planned for April 12th.

I didn't decide to advertise it here simply because episode 6 hadn't happened yet and I wasn't gonna give people any excuse to miss it! [ie. "Ah, I'm pretty skint - still there's always next time!" - I'm such a con artist, I know... :D]

But that didn't mean tell Edd to go ahead and do Kinetic then! You rushed over to say we weren't doing it, when I hadn't *actually* said that we weren't!

It's done now, but that's why I gave the date to Bravo really... I knew we would be competing but you can ask Paolo, we had got that date long before Kinetic decided to do a party.

Don't feel no way Hussla! :D Just don't jump to conclusions straight off!!

Just remember - some people don't *always* want to discuss 'behind-the-scenes' shit on this public message board! :rolleyes:

this is a good point. Ive asked a couple of ppl what they're doing and they've said "hmmmm dunno" tis a tough one if u know ppl playing at both!

should have something on every week instead of 2things on the same night.... er...obviously!

Ideally we all would. Problem is, venues are never that coordinated or thoughtful!

Most owners don't even seem to realise that this type of music is called 'Drum n Bass', let alone ask when other nights are running! :D

I also know you had that date booked before cos Ali went over the plans for the sets cos I was on first and you said maybe do a back to back.

Also, it is easy to jump to conclusions sometimes but there's still the main points of nights being at the same time.

The facts are there that if there's two nights on neither will be as good as they could be.

Trying to please every1 doing this shit is impossible,and so frankly I'm not

well source is currently the 2nd friday of each month and when we re-launch HQ i think it will be the 3rd friday of each month, but it's still pending on artist availability and venue decisions...
