Ive only started using properlly in the last couple of weeks....
theres some good little synths on there and i like the old Dr.Rex too . You can knock out a break pretty sharpish with that.

I'm like a drunken blind man stumbling around in the dark, but I'll get there...
At present I just got the basics: Reason/Recycle
My housemate set me with a mint condition Evolution MK149 synth he found in a front garden on Divinity Rd with a sign by it saying 'help yourself'...

depends what your doing with it ....
dont go PCMIA , they dont have a good range of cards and theres not many In/Out options you can have on them....
USB is a dodgy one. If your using XP, its background task assigning and executing can really fuck with your latency every now and again (very rare though), and you have to wait a few seconds for it to kick back in ....can be anyone with ableton ....but i put up with it...
also ...recording with a USB midi interface has proven really lame for me in the past . Its alright using USB midi to control stuff in real time but recording , you get a 1/4 sec , sometimes longer (if your PCs hot) , and i havent been able to get that down .....
However , thats using a USB 1 interface , cant say if USB 2 has improved ...
FIREWIRE for me is has been the best option .... Its been fast , never crashed on me once , Im using a weird protocal called MLan (by yamaha) .....which means my card is running on an eithernet ...(but then again , i think firwire is some form of eithernet anyways?!?)...so it can handle a lot more audio streaming ...and the added bonus , you can daisy chain other stuff through , like a second sound card ....
If you get a good enough card form the start , it works really nicely as a mobile recording setup, so you can actually work quite effectively on the move...
About 200 squids will get you a decent one ...or a nice compact firewire one ...with some mic preamps too ...
